Lost in Bangkok 2016: Part 2

The next part of my Bangkok trip last June peopleeee

On this post I'll share some yummy bites I had when visiting Bangkok, including the best Thai food I've ever encountered ever

The place is called Paste, A posh restaurant located at Gaysorn Shopping Centre, near Chidlom BTS Station. Just a stone throw away from Central World and Four Faced Buddha Temple. Claiming to serve royal thai cuisine interpreted in a modern twist, this place got it all.

Amuse Bouche

A chicken curry dish which name I totally forgot :(

This is a super delicious pork soup, the broth is sooo rich and fragrant. Very light even though it's a pork broth, the cherry tomatoes add freshness to the heavy pork belly. The pork belly itself was fried/roasted first before put into the broth, it was succulent, juicy and tender. Seriously one of the tastiest pork I've ever had

Paste is the place where you can experience a fine dining Thai food experience in a western style ambiance. I love how the food tastes authentic and not pretentious yet classy and elegant. Totally recommended (prepare to burn your wallet though)

Late night situation at the four faced buddha shrine, walking distance from Paste. A very famous landmark in Bangkok

The view of Bankok from the famous Sky Bar at Lebua Tower Hotel. Featured in the movie Hangover 2, this is a must visit when visiting Bangkok. Yes it is pricey but worth every penny.

A green tea dessert set from Kyo Roll En, a famous dessert chain specializing in japanese dessert esp green tea. I'm not a huge fan of green tea so for me it was just okay

I guess that's all patients, see you on my next post :)

Lost in Bangkok - Part 2 - Nahm

Still about Bangkok patients! This post is all about Nahm, 2014's Asia's BEST restaurant. When we was planning this trip, Ms. Momo the fine dining enthusiast already put this restaurant on the top of the go-to place. I was a bit reluctant since fine dining comes with hefty price tag. I was surprised with the quite affordable price! The set menu costs 2200 baht, cheap rite?

Nahm's decor is nice. Wooden table with elegant yet down to earth setting. Spacious and intimate, the place is not as fancy as those fine dining place around Jakarta. We choose the set menu so we didn't pick any of the dishes. I don't remember the details about the food since it was months ago but i'll try my best to tell you guys about that dinner

We started with appetizers.... Nahm served 4 canapes, all 4 has to be eaten in a certain sequence to experience the best mouth explosion. Each canape has a different taste, texture and taste. My fave is the blue swimmer crab one. Oh soooo goodd

The concept of Nahm is traditional Thai food. So just like in Indonesia, we get big plates of food to be shared. Here we go...

Fresh Tamarind Relish with minced prawn, pork and chilies

This one is like a sort of salad dressing but warm and meaty. Kinda yucky in a way...

Salad of fresh river prawn, pork and asian pennywort

A really fresh salad, the prawn is incredibly fresh. Balanced sour and sweetness, one of my fave dish of the night.

Grilled pork cheek with smoky tomato sauce

What more do u need? PORK. CHEEK. PERIOD

Coconut and turmeric curry with blue swimmer crab and kalamansi lime

Curry should be the star of the dinner but this curry relies heavily on the yummyness of the crab. Tastewise, just okay. Nothing special IMO.
Clear soup of roast duck with thai basil and young coconut

A really fragrant soup (maybe consome is a better word) Clear soup with young coconut and mushroom, gives a sexy texture to the soup.

Next is dessert :) We choose many desserts to sample and I must say all the dessert is good... BUT not special.

Super fresh!!!! Young mango with pandan sugar, oh so gooddd

My verdict...

I don't get why this place has to be crowned Asia's best. The food is just okay, tastes good of course but I don't find it mindblowing. I had high expectation so I was a bit disappointed. Maybe because I come from Indonesia so the herbs and spices don't surprise me?

Tips: DO NOT ORDER THE SET MENU. IMO, if you order the food ala carte, the price is cheaper. After all, the set menu is just picking one menu of each section, not a special set.

Tsurukamedou

Hey patients. how's your day? Today I'm gonna post a review of Tsurukamedou. Ramen boom started 2-3 years ago in Jakarta. The pioneer is the one and only ramen 38. People would queue for a bowl of authentic Japanese noodle. Then... Come Hakata Ikkousha.. The one place in Jakarta where people would wait for hours standing in front of the small restaurant just to get ramen. Thank god I live like 200 m from Hakata so I could come near closing time and enjoy my ramen queue free :)

Tsurukamedou is a the last big name in Jakarta ramen scene. As a late bloomer, Tsurukamedou certainly in a huge disadvantage. Opening the one and only branch in Taman Ratu area, this ramen offers a different kind of ramen.

The ramen is plated (or bowled in this case) differently than the other. The half boiled egg is served on a different plate than the ramen. Firstly, the ramen. This noodle, a bit fragile IMO, resembles hongkong noodle. A bit different to the usual rather chewy ramen. Toppings are beansprouts and scallion. Soup a bit thick and dominated with the taste of fermented beans (Miso?) Meat is great, tender juicy and yummy. This rather unusual combination in a ramen is a bit distracting for me. I just can't enjoy a fresh crunchy beansprouts with warm salty thick soup. Doesn't make sense for me. As for the ramen and meat, acceptable.

Pork Gyoza is good but not great. A bit too oily for my liking.

Japanese fried rice with pork. A plate of happiness! Yummyliciousss. The rice is cooked perfectly, not too dry and not too soggy. Pork toppings in moderate amount, doesn't overpower the rice. Addictive!

Overall, a place u should try. Maybe for a different ramen experience.
